Three points that make an ESD trolley pass or fail
- Shelf top: ordinary MDF is not conductive; the ESD version uses laminate or ESD rubber mat 10⁶–10⁹ Ω.
- Frame: ESD plastic-coated pipe (surface about 10⁶–10⁸ Ω) with conductively plated joints so the shelf top connects through to the casters.
- Conductive casters or drag chain: without these the whole trolley is insulated from the floor even if the shelf tops are ESD. ANSI/ESD S20.20 classes trolleys as mobile equipment, limit < 1×10⁹ Ω to ground, measured per ESD TR53 with a 5 lb electrode on the shelf top.
