Why electronics cleanrooms need dedicated gloves
In SMT, assembly, optics and semiconductor workshops, gloves are the surface that touches the product most. Medical or general-purpose nitrile gloves are only checked for pinholes; nobody counts the particles and ions on them. Cleanroom nitrile gloves are washed repeatedly in ultrapure water, packed in a cleanroom and tested for particles and ions per lot – no particles left on wafers, no ions left to corrode component leads, no powder. Choosing the size & correct use
- Choosing the size: the glove should fit snugly without stretching between the fingers; for full-shift wear take the correct size, not a smaller one for a “tighter grip”. Unsure of the size: request a sample bag, trial it for 1 week on the line, then order by the carton.
- Put gloves on last, after the coverall, hood and face mask; pull the glove cuff over the garment cuff. Do not touch skin, hair, mask or phone; if you do, change gloves.
- Change immediately when torn, punctured or contaminated with chemicals, or per the plant’s change interval; gloves are single use. In EPAs, the wrist strap still sits against the skin, worn under the glove.
- Storage: in the original carton and sealed bags, in a cool dry place, away from sunlight and heat; do not repack gloves outside the clean area.
