PVC strip curtains against dust, insects and cold loss between areas: type, strip size, installation

PVC strip curtains hung in doorways between areas reduce dust, insects and cold-air loss while people and trolleys can still pass through without opening a door. Choosing the right type and strip size matters most. PRIMEAG supplies all types of PVC curtains; stock items delivered within 24–48 hours (Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai).

Summary
  • Curtain type by purpose: clear (general), yellow (insect areas), ESD (electronics areas), low-temperature (cold stores).
  • Strip size by door size: 200 × 2 mm for pedestrian doors, 300 × 3 mm for large doors with vehicle traffic.
  • Enough overlap: strips must overlap each other with no gaps.
  • A curtain is a secondary barrier: clean areas still need sticky mats, sealed doors and entry/exit procedures.

The problem: doors that are always open

Doors between the warehouse and production, or between preparation and packing, usually stay open all day because people and trolleys keep passing through. With the door open, dust, insects and hot air flow in; cold stores lose cooling and compressors run non-stop. With the door closed, it gets in the way, and workers prop it open. A PVC curtain fills the gap: the doorway is always “closed” yet still passable.

1. Choose the curtain type

  • Clear curtain: see-through to avoid collisions; used to block dust, drafts and hot air.
  • Yellow or orange curtain: for areas that need to limit light-attracted flying insects (food area doors, raw material stores). The curtain is only one layer; a pest control program is still needed.
  • Carbon-loaded ESD curtain, 10⁶–10⁹ Ω: entrances to electronics EPAs.
  • Low-temperature curtain: cold and chilled stores; standard PVC becomes stiff and brittle at low temperatures. Working temperature per the supplier’s datasheet.

2. Choose strip size and overlap

200 × 2 mm strips suit pedestrian doors and hand trolleys. 300 × 3 mm strips are heavier and resist drafts better, for wide or tall doors or forklift traffic. Strips must overlap, typically by about 1/3 to 1/2 of the strip width; cold stores and doors exposed to strong drafts need more overlap. Strips should reach the floor, leaving no gap at the bottom.

3. Installation

A stainless steel or galvanized steel rail is mounted on the door frame, and strips hook onto hangers so each strip can be removed individually for replacement. Hang the curtain wider than the door frame on each side to cover the gaps at both edges. Where forklifts pass, use thicker strips and arrange the travel path perpendicular to the curtain.

4. Cleaning and replacement

Wipe curtains regularly with water and a mild detergent; food and pharmaceutical areas follow the factory’s cleaning schedule. Replace strips that are cloudy, torn, warped or no longer overlapping – a cloudy curtain increases the risk of collisions because people behind it cannot be seen.

What a curtain cannot replace

A PVC curtain does not replace sealed doors, air showers or airlocks in clean areas classified under ISO 14644-1. There, the curtain is only a secondary barrier. In food and pharmaceutical areas, benches and racks should be made of washable materials: see 201 or 304 stainless steel for food and pharma benches, racks and trolleys. Clean area entrances: air showers and sticky mats.

How to get started

  1. Measure width × height of each door and note the vehicles that pass through.
  2. Note the main purpose: dust, insects, cold or ESD.
  3. Send photos of the doors so PRIMEAG can calculate the number of strips and rails.

All curtain types are stocked and delivered within 24–48 hours in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai. Material details: PVC strip curtains, clear PVC film and ESD PVC curtains.

ESD PVC curtains in an EPA should be re-measured after 1–2 years; PRIMEAG measures all ESD materials in use free of charge in the same survey visit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 200 mm and 300 mm PVC strips? 200 × 2 mm strips are light and suit pedestrian doors and hand trolleys. 300 × 3 mm strips are heavier, resist drafts better and are used for wide doors, cold stores or forklift traffic.

Do yellow PVC curtains keep insects out? Yellow and orange curtains help limit light-attracted flying insects passing through the doorway, but they are only one layer; food areas still need a pest control program.

Can standard PVC curtains be used in a cold store? Not recommended. Standard PVC becomes stiff and brittle at low temperatures; use a low-temperature grade and check its working temperature in the supplier’s datasheet.
