Code: ES-BAG · ESD shielding bags and moisture barrier bags. Also called “static shielding bags”, “grey ESD bags”, “aluminium dry-pack bags” or “MBB” — the difference: shielding and moisture barrier bags in many standard sizes, a resistance sheet per lot, logo and ESD warning printing, low MOQ. In stock in Ho Chi Minh City: 100×200, 150×200, 200×250, 200×300, 250×350 mm, delivered in 24–48 h; other sizes 5–7 days.
Shielding bags (translucent grey, 3 layers: polyester outside – metallised layer in the middle – dissipative polyethylene inside) form a Faraday cage that blocks static discharge from outside. They are the most common discharge-shielding structure for taking boards out of the EPA under S20.20. Moisture barrier bags (MBB) add a thick aluminium layer that blocks moisture for moisture-sensitive ICs (MSL) when packed with desiccant and a humidity indicator card (HIC). Pink poly bags are only anti-static, not discharge-shielding — they cannot replace shielding bags.
Specifications
- Structure: shielding bag 3 layers, total 0.075 mm (0.08 optional); moisture barrier bag 4 layers with aluminium, 0.1 mm
- Surface resistance: 10⁷–10¹⁰ Ω/sq (dissipative inner layer) for both types
- Discharge shielding: shielding bag < 30 nJ per ANSI/ESD STM11.31; moisture barrier bag: pass
- Moisture barrier (MVTR): moisture barrier bag per the supplier datasheet (J-STD-033 uses g/100 in²/24 h)
- Sizes available — shielding: 100×200, 150×100, 150×200, 200×250, 200×300, 250×350, 240×440, 310×420, 500×700 mm; moisture barrier: 350×500, 600×400 mm

- Standards: ANSI/ESD S541, S11.31, IEC 61340-5-3, RoHS; moisture barrier bag also MIL-PRF-81705 Type I
- Printing (shielding): logo, ESD warning label, from 10,000 bags
- Packing (shielding): 100 bags per bundle · 1,000–5,000 per carton
- MOQ (shielding): 1,000 bags per size
How to choose
- Boards and modules leaving the EPA, shipped to customers → zip shielding bag (repeated opening) or open-top shielding bag (heat-sealed for shipping).
- Moisture-sensitive ICs, BGAs MSL 3+ → moisture barrier bag + silica gel desiccant (CS-DESIC) + HIC card.
- Storage inside the EPA, no shielding needed → cheaper pink poly bags (ask PRIMEAG).
- Large 500×700 boards → large shielding bag, sealed with a bag sealer.
DOCUMENTS PER LOT: resistance sheet, RoHS; 20-bag samples.
RECURRING ORDERS: price held for 6 months.
DRY PACK FOR MSL PARTS: moisture barrier bag + desiccant + humidity indicator card (HIC), light vacuum, then heat seal. Open bags only at a grounded ESD bench with a wrist strap; check the HIC after opening and bake parts that have exceeded their floor life per J-STD-033 before soldering.
FAQ
- Shielding vs pink poly bags? — Pink poly only avoids generating static; shielding bags have a metal layer that blocks discharge from outside. Leaving the EPA requires a discharge-shielding structure, and the shielding bag is the most common one.
- Does a zip reduce shielding? — No, but the zip must be fully closed; an open bag loses its effect.
- Can the bags be reused? — Shielding bags can be reused if not torn or creased through the metal layer; heat-sealed moisture barrier bags are single-use.
- Custom sizes? — From 5,000 bags, 10–15 days.
