Ionizing Blowers, Air Guns & Ionizer Bars

Code: EI · Ionizing blowers, ion air guns and ionizer bars for static elimination. Stock: SL-001 and SL-002 in stock; ionizer bars and SL-1104 in 5–7 days.

Wrist straps, floors and mats only drain static from conductors; insulators (plastic housings, glass, film, PS trays) cannot be grounded — they must be neutralised with ions. Benchtop ionizing blowers SL-001 (1 head), SL-002 (2 heads, for lines), SL-003 (3 heads, long benches) and the overhead SL-1104 mounted above machines; the ion air gun SL-004 on compressed air blows off dust and removes charge before painting or bonding; ionizer bars KESD KE-36X, 300–1,500 mm, mounted over film conveyors and printers; and gooseneck blowers for microscopes. Ion balance and discharge time (1,000 → 100 V) follow each model’s datasheet and are measured with a charged plate monitor (CPM) at the specified distance.

Models

  • SL-001 — benchtop blower, 1 head · coverage 60 × 90 cm · balance ±10 V (reference) · 1 workstation
  • SL-002 — benchtop blower, 2 heads · 120 × 90 cm · ±10 V · 2 workstations / line
  • SL-003 — benchtop blower, 3 heads · 180 × 90 cm · ±10 V · long benches
  • SL-1104 — overhead blower · 100 × 100 cm · ±10 V · above machines
  • SL-004 — compressed-air ion gun, 0.3–0.7 MPa · spot · ±15 V · dust blow-off + static removal
  • KE-36X — ionizer bar, 300–1,500 mm · along its length · ±10 V · conveyors, film
  • Gooseneck blower — mini · 30 cm · ±15 V · microscopes

Installation and maintenance

  • Power supply 220 V.
  • Clean the emitter needles weekly with a swab and IPA, with the power off; do not touch the needles with bare hands.
  • Check balance and discharge time periodically (6 months recommended) with a charged plate monitor (CPM), and again after every cleaning or needle replacement.
  • Balance values above are supplier reference figures; measuring distance and discharge time follow each model’s datasheet.
  • Place the blower close to the work area and aimed correctly — ion effectiveness drops quickly with distance.

Why ionizers when you already have wrist straps, mats and floors?

  • Grounding only removes charge from conductors; common plastics charge strongly and cannot be discharged by grounding in a reasonable time.
  • Since 2014, ANSI/ESD S20.20 limits process-essential insulators within 2.5 cm of sensitive devices to no more than 125 V/inch; above that, ionization is required.
  • Ionization does not replace grounding — it is one part of the ESD programme, used where grounding is not possible.
  • Test methods: ANSI/ESD STM3.1 (evaluation and selection), ANSI/ESD SP3.3 (periodic verification), ESD TR53 (compliance verification under S20.20).

FAQ

  • Does an ionizer replace the wrist strap? — No; it supplements grounding for insulators.
  • What happens if the emitter needles get dirty? — Balance drifts and performance drops; clean them weekly with IPA and a swab.
  • Does it produce ozone? — A small amount; the exact level comes from the manufacturer’s data. The OSHA exposure limit is 0.1 ppm (8-hour average) — avoid running many ionizers in a closed, unventilated room.
