Respirators & Cleanroom Face Masks

Equivalent names: “3M 9001V mask”, “8210 mask”, “cleanroom mask”, “activated carbon mask” — difference: genuine 3M products with CO, all 3 groups from one supplier (particulate respirators – medical – cleanroom), stable carton pricing.
Most common items: 3M 9001V, 9541V, 8210 and white 4-ply.
Delivery: in stock, delivered within 24–48 hours (Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai); lead time for bulk orders is confirmed with the quotation.

Three mask groups for three different needs. Fine particulate respirators (3M N95/KN95): 8210, 8822 (exhalation valve), 9001V, 9332A+ (FFP3), 9501V, 9541/9541V (activated carbon) — for grinding, painting, welding and chemical areas. 4-ply medical masks: white/blue/grey, plus an activated-carbon odour-reducing version — for offices and general assembly. 3-ply cleanroom masks: low-lint nonwoven, latex-free ear loops — for ISO 7–8, SMT and finished-goods packing.

Group Model Filtration standard Used for Packing

4-ply medical White / blue / grey / carbon Per supplier test report (if available) Offices, assembly 50/box · 40–50 boxes/carton
3-ply cleanroom Nonwoven Low lint, latex-free ISO 7–8 50/bag · 2,000/carton
KF94 / VC65 HJ, Neomask KF94 Service areas 50/box

Selection by area
– Grinding, spray painting, welding → 3M 9541V / 9001V (valved for long shifts).
– Volatile chemicals → 3M 9332A+ or a respirator mask + filter cartridges (PPE-HEAD).
– Assembly lines, cleanrooms → 3-ply cleanroom mask.
– Offices, visitors → 4-ply.

Documents: 3M CO, test report (if available) per lot.
Recurring orders: price held for 6 months, minimum stock of 5 cartons of 4-ply and 10 boxes of 3M.

FAQ
– What is the difference between N95, KN95 and FFP2? — Same filtration level of ~94–95 % for 0.3 µm particles, different standards (US / China / Europe); Japanese/Korean factories usually accept all three.
– Can valved masks be used in cleanrooms? — No; the exhalation valve does not filter, so cleanrooms use unvalved masks.
– How do cleanroom masks differ from 4-ply medical masks? — Lower lint, latex-free loops and no exposed metal in the nose strip, clean packaging.
– How to tell genuine 3M? — Model code embossed on the mask face, seal label on the box, CO supplied; PRIMEAG photographs the labels before delivery.

Three types of masks protect three different things

  • Particulate respirators N95, KN95, FFP: protect the wearer from dust particles, fumes and mists. The edges are designed to seal tightly to the face.
  • Medical masks: according to the FDA, these are loose-fitting, with no seal around the nose and mouth; they mainly block droplets and splashes — they cannot replace particulate respirators.
  • Cleanroom masks: protect the product from particles and droplets from the operator; the main requirements are low lint and clean packaging, not filtration efficiency for the wearer.

N95, KN95, FFP2, FFP3 — comparison by standard

Based on 3M’s comparison and the technical data sheet for the 3M Aura 9300+ series:

Standard Minimum filtration efficiency Maximum inward leakage Notes
N95 (NIOSH, USA) ≥ 95 % (NaCl salt test) — (workplace fit test required) Test flow rate 85 L/min
KN95 (GB2626, China) ≥ 95 % (NaCl) 8 % Test flow rate 85 L/min
FFP2 (EN 149, Europe) ≥ 94 % (NaCl and paraffin oil) 8 % Use up to 10 times the occupational exposure limit (OEL)
FFP3 (EN 149) ≥ 99 % (penetration ≤ 1 %) 2 % Use up to 50 times the OEL

Markings on European-standard masks: NR = non-reusable, single shift only; D = passed the dolomite dust clogging test, so breathing stays easy during long work in dusty environments.

Filtering dust does not mean filtering solvent vapour

  • FFP/N95 masks protect only against dust and non-volatile liquid particles; they do not protect against gases or vapours.
  • 3M describes the activated carbon layer of the 3M 9541/9541V as helping to reduce organic vapour odours at nuisance levels — not as protection against solvent vapours at significant concentrations. Paint mixing, adhesive mixing and high-volume IPA wiping areas need a half-face mask with organic vapour cartridges (PPE-HEAD).
  • Do not use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres (below 19.5 %), where contaminants are unknown, or at concentrations immediately dangerous to life or health.

Only a sealed fit works

  1. Position the straps correctly and press the nose clip around the bridge of the nose with both hands.
  2. Perform a seal check every time you put it on (per 3M): valved mask — inhale sharply, the mask should collapse slightly toward the face; unvalved — exhale sharply, no air should leak at the edges.
  3. Beards and long sideburns break the seal — the FDA notes that N95 respirators are not designed for people with facial hair.
  4. As recommended by 3M, users must be trained and fit tested in accordance with each country’s regulations.

When to replace and how to store

  • Discard the mask when it is torn, deformed or dirty, when breathing becomes difficult, or at the end of the shift (NR types).
  • Leave the area immediately if you have difficulty breathing or feel dizzy.
  • Example for the 3M Aura 9300+ series: store in a clean, dry place at −20 to +25 °C, humidity below 80 %, in the original packaging; 5-year shelf life printed on the box. Check the expiry date before issuing to workers.

Medical masks: reading ASTM F2100 levels correctly

Level Bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) Synthetic blood resistance
Level 1 ≥ 95 % 80 mmHg
Level 2 ≥ 98 % 120 mmHg
Level 3 ≥ 98 % 160 mmHg

When a factory requires an ASTM level, a test report stating the level achieved by the exact model is needed.

Identifying genuine products

  • Genuine N95 respirators are printed with the manufacturer’s name, model number and a NIOSH approval number in the form TC-84A-xxxx. Look it up in NIOSH’s Certified Equipment List (CEL): the model and approval number must match.
  • NIOSH warns of signs of counterfeits: unusually low prices, “unlimited stock” during market shortages, and advertising that stresses “authentic”.
