Safety Glasses & Goggles

Common specifications: 3M 1621, TGV01.
Delivery: in stock, delivered within 24–48 hours (Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai); lead time for bulk orders is confirmed with the quotation.

Three groups: 3M 1621 goggles that seal around the eyes, protect against chemical splash and dust, and can be worn over prescription glasses; 3M SF-401AF spectacles Securefit, lightweight, anti-scratch/anti-fog, for assembly, inspection, warehouse and machine operation; general-purpose spectacles TGV01/TGV0 clear, Safety Jogger Sarek, and dark UV-protective glasses for the workshop.

Code Type Protection against Standard Packing
3M 1621 Sealed goggles Chemicals, dust, impact ANSI Z87.1 Piece/bag
3M SF-401AF Securefit spectacles Impact, scratches, fogging ANSI Z87.1 Piece
Safety Jogger Sarek Sport-style spectacles Impact EN 166 Piece
TGV01 / TGV0 Clear spectacles Light impact — 12 pcs/box
Dark glasses Black frame UV, glare — 12/box

MOQ 1 piece/12 pieces; for prescription-glasses wearers choose goggles or OTG spectacles.

FAQ
– Do the glasses fog up when wearing a face mask? — Choose the AF (anti-fog) version.
– Can safety glasses replace a face shield? — Not for forceful chemical splashes; use a face shield.

Material: why are safety lenses made of polycarbonate?

Most industrial safety eyewear (3M SecureFit SF400, 3M 1621 goggles…) uses polycarbonate (PC) for both lens and frame: lightweight (the SF400 series weighs about 19 g) and far more impact resistant than glass or acrylic lenses. PC is softer than glass, so lenses are usually given additional coatings:

  • Hard anti-scratch coating (marking K under EN 166).
  • Anti-fog coating (marking N under EN 166, X under ANSI Z87.1-2020) — only on versions with the AF suffix, not on every model.
  • UV filtering: the clear SF400 lens meets the UV filter requirements of EN 170 (marking 2C-1.2).

Reading ANSI Z87.1 markings (US standard)

Marking Meaning
Z87 Meets basic optical requirements only, not rated for high impact
Z87+ Passes high-impact testing: a 500 g pointed projectile dropped from a minimum height of 4 ft (about 1.2 m); steel ball fired at 102 mph (about 45 m/s) for spectacles, 250 mph (about 112 m/s) for goggles
D3 / D4 / D5 Protection against liquid splash / dust / fine dust
U2–U6 UV filter rating, U6 highest
X Passes anti-fog testing (added in the 2020 edition)

Reading EN 166 markings (European standard)

  • Optical class 1: can be worn all day without eye strain (classes 2 and 3 for short-term use).
  • Impact: F = particles at 45 m/s (all eyewear types); B = 120 m/s (goggles and face shields only); A = 190 m/s (face shields only). The letter T after F/B/A: impact tested at −5 °C and +55 °C.
  • Field of use (marked on the frame): 3 = liquid droplets and splashes; 4 = large dust particles; 5 = gas and fine dust; 9 = molten metal.
  • Example: the 3M SF401AF lens is marked “2C-1.2 3M 1 FT KN”: UV filter, optical class 1, low-energy impact at extreme temperatures, anti-scratch, anti-fog.

Spectacles or goggles?

Under EN 166, spectacles cannot be tested for protection against liquid splash and large dust particles — only goggles can carry markings 3, 4, 5. 3M documentation for the SF400 series states clearly: not tested against liquid droplets, not for use in grinding or welding, not designed to be worn over prescription glasses. Therefore:

  • Mixing chemicals, pouring solvents, chemical cleaning → indirect-vent goggles (3M 1621): the vents are covered, so air circulates but splashes cannot enter directly; can be worn over prescription glasses.
  • Grinding, cutting with heavy spatter → goggles combined with a face shield.
  • Assembly, inspection, warehouse, machine operation → lightweight anti-fog spectacles, worn for the whole shift.

Cleaning and replacement

  • Rinse with clean water before wiping to wash away hard dust particles, then wipe with a soft cloth; wiping dust off dry easily scratches the coating.
  • Do not clean with strong solvents (acetone, petrol) — they damage the coating and cloud the polycarbonate.
  • Store in a pouch or case; do not place the glasses lens-down on the bench.
  • Replace the eyewear when the lenses are scratched enough to impair vision, cracked, the anti-fog coating is peeling, the frame is loose, or after a heavy impact.

Common mistakes

  • Treating ordinary prescription glasses or sunglasses as safety eyewear — they are not impact tested to any standard.
  • Using spectacles at chemical mixing stations.
  • Using dark glasses in poorly lit workshops — reduces visibility and increases the risk of accidents.
