A 250 kg-per-level medium-duty shelving rack falls within the 200–500 kg/level range of PRIMEAG medium-duty racks and suits hand-picked stores such as spare parts bins and component reels in factories in Vietnam. Choose the level depth by the bin size, the level spacing by the bin height, put heavy items low and light items high, spread the load evenly, and bolt tall racks down against tipping.
The storekeeper at a spare parts workshop has just taken on several dozen new part numbers. Bins are stacked temporarily on the floor, and the old racks have been sagging in the middle of each level ever since bearings and bolts were piled into the same spot. When looking for replacement racks, he has only one figure in mind: each level must carry 250 kg.
- 250 kg/level belongs to the medium-duty rack group (200–500 kg/level), meant for hand-picked goods.
- Level size and level spacing follow the bins, not a sample rack.
- The rated load is a uniformly distributed load; heavy items concentrated in one spot go on the level nearest the floor.
- Over 500 kg/level, or using pallets and forklifts: move to heavy-duty racking.

Where a 250 kg medium-duty rack fits among warehouse racks
PRIMEAG makes medium-duty racks rated 200–500 kg per level: punched steel frames powder-coated white or grey, with steel sheet or MDF board decks. 250 kg sits in the lower half of this range, enough for spare parts bins, screw boxes and SMT component reels. For goods that are only small trays, a Φ28 lean pipe (plastic-coated steel pipe) rack with bolted joints is more compact.
Level depth and length
Measure the bins first, choose the rack second. Take the industrial plastic bin PB8 as an example, with outer dimensions of 520 × 424 × 220 mm. With the long side facing inward, the level must be deeper than 520 mm. The level length should equal a multiple of the bin width plus clearance on both sides, so bins do not stick out over the edge.
Number of levels and level spacing
The gap between two levels equals the bin height plus enough room to pull the bin out without scraping the level above. Punched frames let you move level heights when bins change. The top level should be within reach of a standing person. Tall, shallow racks need to be bolted to the wall or floor to prevent tipping.
Uniformly distributed load vs point load
The 250 kg/level figure means a load spread evenly across the whole level. A heavy cluster concentrated mid-span makes the level sag more than the same mass divided among several bins. Put heavy items low and light items high, and post a load-rating sign on each level.
| Rack type | Load per level | Picking method | Suitable goods |
|---|---|---|---|
| Φ28 lean pipe rack | Light duty | By hand, placed next to the line | Trays, small component boxes, frequently changing layouts |
| Medium-duty rack | 200–500 kg | By hand | Spare parts bins, SMT component reels, supplies |
| Heavy-duty rack, 90×60 uprights | About 1,000 kg | Forklift | Pallets of raw materials, finished goods |
When to choose a different rack type
- Goods exceeding 500 kg per level, or receiving and shipping whole pallets: heavy-duty warehouse racking with 90×60 uprights carries about 1,000 kg/level. Price includes delivery and installation; made to order in 2–3 weeks.
- Only light trays next to the line: lean pipe rack, standard models in 5–7 working days.
- Moving goods from racks to the line: a multi-level lean pipe trolley carries 100 kg/level. Trolleys with broken casters or tipping problems: see warehouse trolley caster failures and how to choose shelf load.
Label rack locations following the guide warehouse mis-picks and slow picking.
Bench, rack and trolley frames carry a 3-year warranty; accessories such as casters carry 12 months. Export processing enterprises (EPEs) with orders from VND 20 million receive a 0% VAT invoice, and PRIMEAG handles the on-the-spot import/export customs declaration free of charge.

Frequently asked questions
- Can heavy bins go on the top level of a 250 kg rack? — Yes, if the level load is not exceeded and the load is spread evenly, but heavy bins on the lower levels make the rack more stable and picking safer.
- Steel sheet or MDF board decks – which is better? — Steel is easy to wipe clean of oil and grease, so it suits metal spare parts. MDF gives a smooth, quiet surface, suitable for cardboard boxes and light component reels.
- What documents come with medium-duty racks? — Goods are delivered with CO/CQ and test certificates; regular customers get prices held for 6 months.
