Choose industrial adhesives by the job: for threadlocking against loosening use Loctite 243, 263; for sealing pipe threads and flanges use 577, 518; for retaining shafts and bearings use 603, 638; for instant bonding use 401, 406; for gap sealing use neutral-cure silicone or Sikaflex. PRIMEAG supplies all five groups in Vietnam; Loctite by Henkel, CO per batch.
A factory maintenance store often holds a dozen bottles of industrial adhesive, and the night-shift technician grabs whichever is closest. The familiar result: bolts still work loose, pipe threads still weep, bearings spin in their housings after a few weeks. The fault is usually using the adhesive for one job on a different job.
- Name the job first: locking, sealing, retaining, bonding or gap filling.
- Anaerobic adhesives only cure between two closely fitting metal surfaces.
- Do not use acetoxy (acid-cure) silicone near copper or electrical cabinets.
- Threads that must be removed after high temperatures need anti-seize, not adhesive.

Industrial adhesive selection table by 5 jobs
| Job | Adhesive group | Example grades | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bolts and screws loosening under vibration | Anaerobic threadlocker | 222, 243, 263, 290 | 263 is near-permanent; removal requires heating to about 250 °C |
| Pipe threads and flanges leaking oil, water, air | Anaerobic sealant or RTV silicone | 577, 545, 518, 5910 | 518 for rigid flanges with gaps up to 0.25 mm; stamped sheet-metal covers use 5910 |
| Bearings, bushings, rotors mounted on shafts | Anaerobic retaining compound | 603, 638, 641, 648 | Choose by clearance; use 641 where periodic replacement is needed |
| Instant bonding of plastics, rubber, small metal parts | Cyanoacrylate | 401, 406, 454, 480 | PE and PP need 770 primer; do not wear cotton gloves when using |
| Sealing gaps around glass, aluminum, floors, wall bases | Silicone, elastic PU | Apollo A500, Sikaflex 11FC | For joints that will be painted, use PU, not silicone |
Common mistakes when choosing the wrong adhesive
- Putting anti-seize on threads under vibration: it reduces thread friction, the exact opposite of preventing loosening.
- Using threadlocker on bearings: different viscosity and design purpose.
- Acetoxy silicone inside electrical cabinets: acetic acid vapor released during curing corrodes copper contacts.
- Anaerobic adhesive on plastic threads: thermoplastics may crack; for plastic threads use 55 thread sealing cord.
- PTFE tape plus adhesive: the tape keeps the adhesive from touching the metal, so it does not cure.
When to use each adhesive group
Threadlocking
Loctite threadlockers 222, 243, 263, 270, 290 fill the gap between male and female threads. Choosing by thread size, temperature and application method is covered in the article choosing Loctite threadlocker for bolts loosening under vibration.
Sealing pipe threads and flanges
Loctite pipe thread and flange sealants seal tighter and last longer than PTFE tape on pipe threads.
Retaining shafts and bearings
Loctite retaining compounds for shafts and bearings transmit load over the entire cylindrical surface and prevent fretting.
Instant bonding
Loctite instant adhesives suit small parts and thin gaps; joints exposed to heat or long-term water immersion should use epoxy.
Sealing gaps in the plant building
Silicone, Sikaflex and two-part (AB) adhesives for factories for glass, aluminum and floor joints. The differences between acetoxy, neutral and PU are covered in the article acetoxy or neutral silicone, Sikaflex or AB adhesive.
When threads need to come apart, not be locked
Exhaust bolts, furnace flanges and stainless threads prone to galling need Loctite LB 8008, 8150, 8009 anti-seize. For stainless steel and aluminum use metal-free LB 8009.

Where to start
- List the adhesives in the maintenance store and the jobs they are used for.
- Mark the recurring failure points.
- Compare with the table above and consolidate to one or two grades per job.
- Send the list via the quote request page; PRIMEAG quotes within 30 minutes (Mon–Sat, 8:00–17:00).
Export processing enterprises (EPE) ordering from VND 20 million are invoiced at 0% VAT, and PRIMEAG handles the on-the-spot import/export customs declaration free of charge.
Frequently asked questions
Can one all-purpose adhesive replace all five adhesive groups? No. Anaerobic adhesives cure only in closed metal gaps, cyanoacrylates need a thin gap, and silicone cures with moisture; each mechanism suits only one type of joint.
Can anaerobic adhesives be used on stainless steel or plated steel? Yes, but passive metals cure slowly. Choose a primerless grade such as 243, 263, 270, or spray SF 7649 activator before applying.
Do the Loctite adhesives PRIMEAG delivers come with origin documents? Yes. Henkel, CO per batch, orders from 1 bottle; the expiry date is printed on the label.
