ESD Wrist Strap with Coil Cord

ESD Wrist Strap with Coil Cord

Code: EW-18 · ESD wrist strap with 1.8 m coil cord and 1 MΩ safety resistor. Also called “1.8 m ESD wrist strap”, “anti-static wrist band” or Leko 1m8 type — the difference: 1 MΩ resistance tested per lot with a test sheet, and sold as a complete grounding kit (strap + cord + grounding point + tester) with a grounding diagram. Stock in Ho Chi Minh City, delivery 24–48 h.

Operator grounding — the first mandatory item when setting up an EPA to ANSI/ESD S20.20. Soft PVC band with a stainless steel contact plate and 4 mm snap; PU coil cord extending to 1.8 m, with a 1 MΩ safety resistor in the snap end so that leakage current is not dangerous if a live conductor is touched. Alligator clip or 10 mm stud to connect to the grounding point on the bench.

The human body charges continuously when walking, sitting or handling plastic bags: ESDA data show a seated worker can reach 6,000 V at 10–25 % RH, while many semiconductor devices fail at a few hundred volts and people do not feel a discharge below about 3,000 V. The wrist strap keeps a seated operator at ground potential, so charge cannot build up and nothing discharges when components are touched.

How to choose

  • Seated soldering and assembly lines → corded wrist strap (this product).
  • Mobile inspection and repair staff → Leko heel strap (EH-01) with an ESD floor; cordless straps are supplementary only, never a replacement.
  • Cleanrooms → knitted fabric band instead of PVC (special order).
  • Bench without a grounding point → add a 2-port grounding point (EC-2) + ground cord with stud and clip (EG-3S).

STANDARD LIMITS: cord end-to-end 0.8–1.2 MΩ, band inner surface < 1×10⁵ Ω, outer surface > 1×10⁷ Ω, cord flex life on average > 16,000 cycles at 120°, breakaway force 1–5 lb (0.45–2.3 kg) (ANSI/ESD S1.1); person-to-ground < 3.5×10⁷ Ω (ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021); hand-to-ground when worn 7.5×10⁵–3.5×10⁷ Ω (EN 61340-5-1). The breakaway force is intentional: secure while working, but releasing if the operator stands up suddenly.

WHY 1 MΩ: the resistor protects the operator and does not reduce ESD performance — touching 220–250 V, the current is limited to about 0.25 mA (250 V ÷ 1 MΩ). Because the resistor is rated 250 V, do not wear a wrist strap where circuits of 250 V or more can be touched.

TESTING: PRIMEAG measures resistance per lot and supplies a test record; we show you start-of-shift testing with a wrist strap tester (ET-WT) and provide a log template for audits. ANSI/ESD S1.1 recommends testing daily while worn, and S20.20 requires a log — a cord broken inside the coil looks normal and only shows up on the tester. Wear the band against the skin, not over a sleeve or a watch, and plug it into the grounding point rather than clipping it to the mat edge.

FAQ

  • Do cordless wrist straps meet S20.20? — No; S20.20 requires a measurable path to ground. Cordless straps are supplementary only — NASA testing found they do not prevent charging.
  • What is the 1 MΩ in the cord for? — It limits current through the body if a 220 V source is touched (<0.25 mA); a strap without it is a safety violation.
  • How is it checked daily? — With a wrist strap tester: wear the strap, plug in the cord, press the button; green = pass (0.75–35 MΩ). Log the result each shift.
  • What does a 20-station line need? — 20 straps + 20 ground cords + 10 two-port grounding points + 1 tester; PRIMEAG draws the connection diagram to the common ground point.
  • How long does a cord last? — 6–12 months depending on how often it is stretched; replace the cord separately and keep the band.
