Narrow-aisle Lean Pipe Trolley 720×430×1500
Delivery: production 5–7 days; this configuration has been delivered to a connector factory in Long An (name disclosed when permitted).
A narrow trolley for moving component trays, sub-assemblies and packing boxes between line positions with aisles of 600–800 mm. Lean pipe (plastic-coated steel pipe, Φ28) frame with joints, 4–5 MDF shelves with plastic edging (ESD laminate optional), PU Φ75 castors with 4 swivel and 2 braked, single-end push handle. Light (~18 kg), can be pushed with one hand, and shelves can be added by the user.

Selection advice
– Narrow aisles, small trays → this model.
– 600×400 bins, heavy loads → 1500×600 trolley (PT-1516).
– Cleanrooms → 3030 aluminium trolley (AT-8612).
– Carrying boards upright → magazine rack (MR).
Inspection & handover: load test, brake check, inspection record; drawings supplied.
FAQ
– Will it pass through an 800 mm door? — Yes, it is 430 mm wide. Turning on the spot needs clearance larger than the trolley’s diagonal (≈ 840 mm) plus the handle — measure the actual corners.
– Can lips be added so trays don’t fall off? — Yes, 20–40 mm lips on three sides.
– Is an ESD surface available? — Yes: ESD laminate bonded to the frame by a wire/metal joint, 4 conductive castors; a drag chain is only a supplementary measure.
– Volume discounts? — From 10 trolleys the price is reduced by 8–10 %, delivered in lots.
Trolley geometry in narrow aisles
The 430 mm width determines whether the trolley fits through the aisle; the ability to turn around depends on the footprint diagonal. For a 720 × 430 mm trolley, the diagonal is approximately √(720² + 430²) ≈ 840 mm — this is the minimum diameter when rotating the trolley about its centre, not counting the handle and the swivel castors swinging outward. When surveying aisles, also measure pinch points: columns, rack legs, electrical cabinets, room doors.
- 4 swivel castors: turns on the spot and can move sideways — suited to narrow aisles with many corners. Drawback: hard to keep straight over long distances, so the operator must “steer” constantly.
- 2 swivel + 2 fixed: tracks straight and stable, less tiring; but needs more turning space. Swivel castors go at the handle end.
Stability: tall trolley, narrow base
A trolley 1,500 mm tall on a 430 mm wide base has a height-to-width ratio of about 3.5:1, so it can easily tip sideways when a castor hits a ridge or groove or during a sharp turn. Loading rules:
- Heaviest items on the bottom shelf; upper shelves only for light trays, paperwork and small components.
- Place trays centred on the shelf, not overhanging the edge; use lips on sides where items could fall.
- Push slowly over floor ridges and door tracks; do not pull the trolley backwards when your view is blocked.

PU Φ75 castors: load per castor and push force
Polyurethane castors (hardness about 92 Shore A) have low starting and rolling resistance and leave no marks on the floor — suitable for assembly lines with epoxy floors. Castor maker TENTE recommends calculating load per castor = (trolley weight + load) ÷ (number of castors − 1), because on uneven floors only 3 castors carry the load. For a trolley of about 18 kg carrying 120 kg: (18 + 120) ÷ 3 = 46 kg/castor — replacement castors must be rated for at least this load.
Ergonomically, ISO 11228-2 and the Snook – Liberty Mutual tables separate initial force and sustained force. HSE (UK) screening figures: starting/stopping about 200 N for men, 150 N for women; sustained about 100 N for men, 70 N for women. A small trolley loaded to 120 kg on a flat floor is usually below these levels; force rises noticeably when castors are worn, jammed with debris or the floor is uneven — measure with a force gauge at the handle at acceptance and at each periodic inspection.

ESD configuration: a continuous path is required
The plastic coating on standard pipe is an insulator, so an ESD laminate surface will not ground itself through the frame. A true ESD trolley needs a continuous path: ESD shelf surface → wire or metal joint → frame → conductive castors → ESD floor → ground.
- ANSI/ESD S20.20 classifies carts as mobile equipment, with a resistance-to-ground limit of < 1×10⁹ Ω.
- A drag chain is a supplementary measure: its contact area is small, and many factories report unreliable grounding. Use all 4 conductive castors and plug in a ground cord when the trolley is parked at a station for long periods.
- A castor touches the floor over only about 1 cm²; on ESD vinyl floors with sparse conductive chips, the same trolley may pass at one moment and fail the next just by moving a few cm. Measure at several positions during acceptance.
- Measure per ESD TR53: place a 5 lb electrode on each shelf and measure to ground through the floor.
Common mistakes
- Choosing a trolley by aisle width but forgetting the turning radius at corners.
- Putting heavy bins on the top shelf to make them “easier to reach”.
- Fitting an ESD surface but keeping standard PU castors, or using an ESD trolley on a non-conductive epoxy floor.
- Not cleaning the castors: thread, tape and PE film wrapped around the axle make the trolley heavy and pull it off course.
