Chairs for Food Processing and Packing Areas: Stainless Steel, FRP Stool or Saddle Chair

Which chairs are easy to clean in a food processing and packing plant in Vietnam? In washing and wet preparation areas, use 4-leg stainless steel stools or swivel stainless steel stools on foot pads; dry packing areas suit FRP-seat stools, and for tables 900 mm and higher choose saddle chairs. PRIMEAG recommends choosing a height that puts the seat about 27–30 cm below the table top.

Summary
  • Drop fabric- or leather-covered foam chairs, because foam and seams hold water and debris.
  • Wet floors: fixed foot pads instead of casters.
  • Inox 201 stainless steel lasts in dry environments; with brine or chlorine cleaners, ask first.
  • Stainless steel chairs are made in 7–10 days; chair warranty 12 months.

Why chairs wear out quickly in food plants

Foam chairs covered in fabric or faux leather crack easily under daily washing. Water soaks into the foam, and seams trap food debris. Painted steel legs get scratched and then rust, and the gap between seat and frame collects dirt.

A mistake few people notice: the chair is too low for the stainless steel table. Operators have to bend and hunch all shift.

Wet and washing areas: stainless steel chairs on fixed foot pads

The 4-leg stainless steel stool does not swivel, does not slide and has few parts to fail. It is not height-adjustable, so choose the correct height when ordering; from 60 cm upward it comes with a footrest brace ring.

If you need swivel or height adjustment, use the swivel stainless steel stool. A solid stainless seat can be wiped with 70 % alcohol. A perforated seat drains water quickly. The threaded spindle has no gas cylinder, so it cannot leak down. A round base or foot pads keep the stool stationary.

Both models are made from inox 201 stainless steel and last in dry environments; dry them after washing. Brine or chlorine-based cleaners must be mentioned before ordering. A comparison of the two steel grades is in the article choosing inox 201 or 304 for food and pharmaceutical equipment.

Dry packing areas: FRP stools or saddle chairs

The FRP plastic seat stool has a glass-fibre-reinforced plastic seat that is smooth and foam-free, so it does not absorb liquid and does not tear when hit by sharp tools. It is less comfortable than a PU seat and suits short tasks such as weighing and labelling.

Packing tables 900 mm and higher suit a saddle chair. The half-sitting, half-standing posture keeps the lower back in a more natural position. Choose a tall gas lift with a footrest ring; new users need a few days to get used to it.

Choosing chair height for stainless steel tables

Take the table top height and subtract about 27–30 cm. For the 4-leg stainless steel stool:

  • Table 700–780 mm: stool 43 or 50 cm (PU seat with 4 holes).
  • Table 850–900 mm: stool 60 cm.
  • Table 950–1,000 mm: stool 70 or 73 cm.
  • Counter 1,050–1,200 mm: stool 80 or 90 cm.

Where operators stand more than they sit, add an anti-fatigue rubber mat; the 14 mm type suits most full-shift standing positions. How to combine chairs, mats and tables is covered in the article standing all shift: anti-fatigue mats, chairs and table height.

Where to start

  1. Mark the wet areas, dry areas and floor wash-down positions.
  2. Measure each table type and subtract 27–30 cm to get the chair height.
  3. Check whether the cleaners in use contain chlorine.
  4. Send quantities, seat type, base and pads via the form; PRIMEAG sends a quotation within 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Can stainless steel chairs handle a wash-down area all day? Yes, if they stand on foot pads and are dried after the shift. Where there is brine or chlorine cleaner, ask our engineers first, because the chairs are made from inox 201.

Is an FRP stool comfortable enough for a full shift? The FRP seat is hard, so it suits short sitting tasks. For long sitting at high tables, a saddle chair is more comfortable.

What chair height for a 900 mm stainless steel table? A 4-leg stainless steel stool 60 cm high, or a saddle chair with a tall gas lift if operators lean forward for long periods.
