When insulating boots are needed
- Operating low-voltage panels (MSB, DB) on damp floors or outdoors: low-voltage boots + insulating rubber mat.
- Switching and inspecting RMUs and 22 kV substations: 22–24 kV boots + 22 kV gloves + operating hot stick.
- 35 kV substations and work on the grid: 35 kV boots in line with your organization’s electrical safety procedure.
Boots are supplementary protection: they do not replace de-energizing, locking out, tagging and verifying the absence of voltage before work. The voltage marked on the boots is the manufacturer’s test voltage; check it against the working voltage and the lot test report.
Inspection and storage
- Before each shift: inspect the entire surface and sole; discard if there are cuts, punctures, crazing (ozone cracks) or a sole worn through to the lining.
- After each shift: wash off mud, wipe dry and store in a ventilated place away from sunlight and heat sources; do not store with oil, grease or solvents.
- Retest electrically at the interval set by the unit responsible for electrical safety; write the test date on the label and keep the report.

– How do insulating boots differ from 6 kV electrical-hazard safety shoes? — Electrical-hazard safety shoes (sole tested at 6 kV) are supplementary protection for walking around the factory. 22–35 kV rubber insulating boots are primary equipment for operating medium-voltage switchgear, used together with insulating gloves and mats.
– How do I choose the size? — Vietnamese boots come in size 40/41 (shared) and 42, 43. Wear them with thick socks; if in doubt between two sizes, choose the larger one.
– Do boots need periodic retesting? — They should be electrically retested at the interval set by the unit responsible for electrical safety (usually 12 months) and visually inspected before every shift: cracks, punctures or worn heels mean discard.
