Code: GH-ESD-T · Specification: ESD chair with backrest, swivel, gas-lift height adjustment – PU (M11, M12, M13) or leather seat. Delivery: stocked items in 24–48 hours (Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai), made-to-order items 3–7 working days. Warranty: 12 months.
For operators seated the whole shift inside the EPA: SMT lines, assembly, PCB rework, electronics QC rooms. PRIMEAG offers 4 ranges – PU seat M11, M12, M13 (M13 with armrests or tilting backrest) and leather in blue or black – with 4 base types, glides or castors, and low or high gas lift with foot ring. Seat-to-floor resistance is measured per batch before delivery.
When to choose a chair with backrest? When operators sit and work continuously for hours. The backrest supports the lower back; a backless stool only suits short sitting or alternating sit–stand work (see the ESD stool).
Choose a range
| Range | Seat and backrest | Difference | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| M11 | PU, rounded backrest | Compact, widest base choice (8 types) | Assembly lines, 750 mm benches |
| M12 | PU, rectangular backrest | Wider backrest, firmer support | Full-shift seating, QC, rework |
| M13 | PU, high contoured backrest | Versions with tilting backrest or armrests | Technicians, fixed workstations |
| Leather | Foam cushion, blue or black leather | Softer than PU; avoid sharp objects | Inspection rooms, electronics labs |
Bases, glides and gas lift
| Option | Choose when |
|---|---|
| Cast aluminium 5-star base | One-piece casting, no welds, rigid and easy to keep clean – long service life, clean areas |
| Chrome-plated steel 5-star base | Bent and welded steel tube, chrome-plated – lower cost than cast aluminium, for general shop-floor use |
| Welded chrome ring base | Built-in ring as a footrest – high benches, chairs that rarely move |
| Nylon 5-star base | Light, rust-free, low cost; the ESD version uses conductive nylon |
| Disc base | No castors, does not roll – counters, high benches, floors kept clean |
| Glides (fixed) | Chair stays in one position, no dust dragged – conductive on ESD versions |
| Castors | Operator needs to roll back, turn and change position – conductive on ESD versions |
| Low gas lift | Seated benches about 750 mm high |
| High gas lift + foot ring | Sit–stand benches 900–1,000 mm; knees bent about 90°, feet supported |

Optional parts

Choose by workstation
- Bench about 750 mm, seated all shift → M11 or M12, low gas lift, castors.
- Sit–stand bench 900–1,000 mm → high gas lift + foot ring (M11, M12, M13).
- Cleanroom, chair stays in place → fixed glides, no dust dragged.
- Rework technicians who rest arms while using a microscope → M13 with armrests.
How an ESD chair works
An ESD chair does not “absorb” static. It provides a continuous path from the seated person to the ESD floor: conductive seat → seat plate → gas lift → base → conductive glides or castors → grounded ESD floor or mat. One insulating link – a plastic piston cover, an ordinary castor, a chair placed on a tiled floor – breaks the path. That is why PRIMEAG measures seat-to-floor resistance per batch before delivery.
| Stage | Method | Measuring point | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product qualification | ANSI/ESD STM12.1 | Seat, backrest, armrests, foot ring → ground | Rg < 1×10⁹ Ω (ANSI/ESD S20.20) |
| Periodic verification | ESD TR53 | One point on the seat → ground | Rg < 1×10⁹ Ω |
A chair does not replace the wrist strap. According to ESDA, seated operators handling ESD-sensitive devices must still be grounded with an ESD wrist strap. The chair only works when it stands on an ESD PVC floor or a grounded ESD mat.
Maintenance
- Wipe with IPA or ESD cleaner; never use silicone or wax polishes – they leave an insulating film.
- No fabric cushions, covers or plastic bags on the seat.
- Replace worn glides or castors with the same conductive type and re-measure seat-to-ground resistance.
FAQ
- Does an ESD chair need a ground cord? — No. It discharges through conductive glides or castors to the ESD floor; on an ordinary floor it has no effect.
- PU or leather? — Moulded PU has no seams and wipes clean fast; leather has a foam layer so it is softer but can tear on sharp objects.
- Is there a chair for 1 m high benches? — Yes: high gas lift + foot ring, or the chrome ring base with built-in footrest.
- Minimum order? — 2 chairs; different bases can be mixed in one order.
