An ESD PVC floor only achieves its resistance to ground when there is a grounded copper tape grid underneath, conductive adhesive spread at the right rate, and sealed welded seams. Four materials that decide whether the floor “conducts”
- Conductive copper tape 12 mm: laid as a grid under the floor and connected to the earthing point – the discharge path for the whole floor surface.
- Conductive adhesive: bonds the tile to the subfloor and conducts from the tile surface down to the copper grid; ordinary adhesive turns an ESD floor into an insulating floor.
- PVC welding rod 4 mm: welds the seams between tiles against dust, water and lifting edges; 12 colours to match the floor.
- Anti-static floor finish: protects the surface and keeps the resistance stable through repeated cleaning – ordinary floor polish raises the resistance.

Consumption rates and installation sequence

Common mistakes in self-installation
- Using ordinary adhesive: the floor measures above 10¹¹ Ω and has to be lifted and relaid – see ESD PVC floor lifting edges and open gaps.
- Copper grid not closed or not grounded: individual floor zones “drift” in resistance.
- Welding seams before the adhesive has cured: wrinkled seams, lifting edges.
- Applying ordinary floor polish: the floor looks glossy but resistance rises after 1–2 months.

- Can I use ordinary flooring adhesive and just add copper tape? — No; the adhesive must be conductive to connect the tile surface to the copper grid.
