PTFE Glass-cloth Tape
Also called: “PTFE tape”, “Teflon tape”, “60 mm heat-resistant tape”, “heat sealer tape”, “bag sealer insulation tape”, “glass cloth tape” — difference: abrasion-resistant glass-cloth backing (not thin PTFE film), silicone adhesive.

Selection by process

PTFE – why is it non-stick and heat-resistant?
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, trade name Teflon by Chemours) is a polymer with very strong carbon–fluorine bonds. It is almost inert to all common chemicals. According to data compiled on Wikipedia:
- Melting point 327 °C; degradation begins at about 260 °C, decomposition above 350 °C.
- Coefficient of friction against polished steel only 0.05–0.10 — among the lowest of all solid materials, so molten plastic film does not stick.
- Fumes from overheated PTFE (above about 250 °C) can cause flu-like symptoms (“polymer fume fever”). Do not let the heating bar exceed its set temperature; keep the sealer area ventilated.
Construction of glass-cloth Teflon tape
The tape consists of PTFE-impregnated glass-fiber cloth and a heat-resistant silicone adhesive layer. Glass fiber gives tensile strength, tear and puncture resistance and almost no stretch; PTFE gives the non-stick surface. For reference, Saint-Gobain publishes for its SG25 series:

The whole series has elongation at break below 5 %, a temperature range of −73 to 260 °C and no “cold flow” under heavy load. Applications listed by the maker: non-stick surfaces on heat sealers, blister machines, form-fill-seal packaging machines, guide rail liners and slide chutes. Thicker tape lasts longer against abrasion but transfers heat more slowly — when changing thickness, readjust sealing temperature/time.
Replacing tape on a bag sealer
- Switch off the machine and wait until the sealing bar is fully cool.
- Peel off the old tape, clean adhesive and plastic residue with IPA, let dry.
- Apply new tape covering the heating wire and both clamp ends; keep it straight, without wrinkles or air bubbles — wrinkles will print onto the seal line.
- Press firmly and trim the edges; also replace the tape on the opposite side (press jaw) if worn.
Replace the tape when you see scorch marks, tears, exposed fibers, or when plastic film starts sticking to the sealing bar.
