ESD stools for short seated tasks or alternating standing and sitting inside the EPA: visual inspection, measuring benches, rework, component stores. PRIMEAG offers 5 seat types (PU 4-hole, PU with grab handle, button-textured PU, double-ring leather in blue/black, thick leather), cast aluminium bases, chrome-plated steel, ring or disc bases, and glides or castors. Seat-to-floor resistance is measured per batch.
Stool or chair with backrest? A stool is compact, swivels quickly and slides easily under the bench – suited to short seated tasks with frequent changes of posture. A stool gives no lumbar support, so it is not for stations seated the whole shift; for those, choose an ESD chair with backrest.

Choosing by workstation
- Inspection, rework, short seated tasks → PU 4-hole or button-textured seat, castors.
- High benches 900–1,000 mm → high gas lift + foot ring, or chrome ring base.
- Long lines, stool fixed at each station → glides or disc base, no rolling.
- Stool moved many times per shift → PU seat with grab handle.
Specific to stools: stools are often dragged and turned, so glides wear faster than castors; once the conductive layer of a glide wears off, resistance rises. Check the glides at every periodic measurement.
How an ESD chair works
An ESD chair does not “absorb” static. It creates a continuous path from the seated person to the ESD floor: conductive seat → seat plate → gas lift → base → conductive glides or castors → grounded ESD floor or mat. A single insulating link (an ordinary plastic cover over the gas lift, one castor swapped for a standard one, a chair placed on a tiled floor) and the chair stops working. That is why PRIMEAG measures seat-to-floor resistance per batch before delivery.

A chair does not replace the wrist strap. According to the ESD Association (ESDA), seated operators handling ESD-sensitive devices must still be grounded with an ESD wrist strap. The chair only works when placed on a grounded ESD PVC floor or ESD mat.
Maintenance
- Wipe with IPA or ESD cleaning solution; do not use silicone or wax polishes – they form an insulating film.
- Do not put foam pads, fabric seat covers or plastic bags on the seat.
- Worn or broken castors and glides must be replaced with the same conductive type, then seat-to-ground resistance re-measured.
FAQ
– Is the ESD stool height-adjustable? — Yes, by gas lift; choose a low, mid or high lift to suit the bench height.
– Round PU seat or leather seat – which is better for an ESD area? — Moulded PU has no seams, wipes clean fast and withstands IPA cleaning solvent; leather is softer but tears easily on sharp objects.
– Can a stainless steel stool be used in an EPA? — Stainless steel is conductive, but it must use conductive glides/castors and pass measurement; see the stainless steel swivel stool.
– What is the minimum order quantity? — From 2 stools.
