0609 / 0606 wiping paper is a nonwoven wiper made for electronics cleanrooms: cleaning machine beds, trays and jigs on SMT lines, absorbing solvent spills and wiping flux after hand soldering. The 55% cellulose – 45% polyester fabric is highly absorbent, leaves no residue when wiping up liquids, has a low-lint coating and comes in sealed packs — unlike ordinary paper towels and rags, which contain binders and fillers and shed microfibers that cling to components under static. The cheapest of the three cleanroom wiper types, used for Class 100–1,000.
Why electronics cleanrooms need dedicated wiping paper
All cloths, rags and office tissues shed fibers. The microfibers are invisible to the naked eye, but under static they stick firmly to PCBs, component leads and lenses and become a source of product defects. Ordinary tissue also contains binders, fillers and residual ions. 0609 / 0606 wiping paper replaces them for equipment cleaning on SMT lines and in component assembly, optics and semiconductors: binder-free material, low-lint coated surface, sealed packs of 300 sheets, with SGS RoHS and halogen reports. It is a disposable product, not a multipurpose wiper.
Features and construction
- Material: 55% cellulose (wood pulp) – 45% polyester, entangled by high-pressure water jets (hydroentangled), binder-free — the same construction as the reference line Texwipe TechniCloth TX609.
- Cellulose is hydrophilic: it absorbs water, IPA and solvents very quickly and is soft; it leaves no residue after wiping up liquids.
- Polyester keeps the sheet strong when wet (Techspray) — it does not fall apart or tear when soaked with IPA.
- Smooth, flat surface with a special coating: no lint generation in normal wiping; still more lint than polyester or laser-edge microfiber wipers.
- Packing: 300 sheets/pack, 10 packs/carton; 0609 (9×9 inch) is the highest-volume item, 0606 (6×6 inch) for small spots.

Class 100 / 1,000 (FED-STD-209E) = ISO 5 / 6 (ISO 14644-1). Low lint (not zero-lint), resistant to IPA/acetone; RoHS, CoA per lot. Sizes 0612 (6×12 inch) and 12×12 inch are made to order.

Not for: lenses, touch glass, glossy painted surfaces (switch to microfiber 8009); PCBs and bare components that require strict ionic cleanliness, or Class 10 rooms (switch to polyester 1009). According to Texwipe, cellulose/polyester nonwovens release more fibers and ions (Na⁺, K⁺, Cl⁻) than knitted polyester wipers; residual ions on component leads can cause corrosion and leakage current.
How to use it correctly
- Keep the paper in its sealed pack until use; open the pack inside the clean zone, take only what you need, then fold the pack closed. Cellulose absorbs moisture — avoid humid storage.
- Fold the sheet in four, with the open edges turned inward.
- Apply just enough solvent to dampen it — do not soak it or pour directly from a large drum.
- Wipe in one direction with parallel, overlapping strokes; lift the paper at the end of each stroke. Do not wipe in circles — it only pushes particles from one place to another (Contec).
- Change to a clean face after every stroke; when no clean face is left, discard the sheet. Do not scrub hard and dry on rough surfaces — this pulls out fibers.

- 0609 wiping paper vs polyester 1009 wiper: what is the difference? — 0609 is nonwoven paper: cheap, fast-absorbing, some lint, Class 100–1,000. 1009 is laser-cut knitted polyester fabric: low lint, low ions, more expensive, usable up to Class 10.
- What does “smooth square” wiping paper mean? — A flat, smooth surface without embossing, with a coating; it sheds fewer fibers than embossed types.
- Can it be used to clean screens? — Yes, with diluted IPA (AOI screens, bench glass); for optical lenses use microfiber 8009.
