ESD Stainless Steel Workbench Supplier: 304 Frame, ESD Top and Correct Grounding

Looking for an ESD stainless steel workbench supplier in Vietnam? A stainless steel workbench is only ESD-compliant when the frame and work surface are grounded and measure below 1×10⁹ Ω to ground. Bare stainless steel is too conductive for assembly areas with sensitive components, so PRIMEAG usually covers it with an ESD rubber mat of 10⁶–10⁹ Ω; areas that need wash-down keep the stainless top and are still grounded.

Summary
  • What you need to know: stainless steel is not an ESD bench by itself.
  • A bare stainless top is a conductor (below 10⁴ Ω); a charged component touching it can discharge fast in CDM fashion.
  • Choose 304 stainless steel for humid or chemical environments; consider a lean pipe frame (plastic-coated steel pipe, Φ28) or aluminium profile if you only need electronics assembly.

ESD stainless steel workbenches: conductive stainless is not enough

Stainless steel is conductive in itself. But if the bench stands on plastic feet with no ground wire, the charge still stays on the bench.

Under the ANSI/ESD S541 classification, materials below 10⁴ Ω are conductive, and 10⁴ to below 10¹¹ Ω are dissipative. A charged component touching a metal surface discharges almost instantly, causing CDM-type damage.

Two correct uses of a stainless top

  • Sensitive component assembly areas: cover with a 2-layer ESD rubber mat. Top layer 10⁶–10⁹ Ω, bottom layer 10³–10⁵ Ω, 2.0 mm thick.
  • Cleanroom, pharmaceutical and food areas needing wash-down: keep a seamless stainless top, with a ground wire on the frame.

Operators wear a wrist strap with 1.8 m coiled cord with a 1 MΩ current-limiting resistor.

304 or 201 stainless steel for the bench frame

304 stainless steel contains about 18% chromium and 8% nickel and resists humidity and mild chemicals well. 201 stainless is cheaper but stains easily. A comparison by environment is in the article choosing inox 201 or 304 for benches, racks and trolleys.

The product with its own page is the wall-mounted lab bench with 304 stainless steel frame (40×40 box section, 1.2 mm thick, ESD laminate or 1.0 mm stainless top, 200 kg load). Stainless benches in other sizes are made to drawing; send them via the drawing submission form. Matching racks and trolleys: advice on 304 stainless racks/trolleys.

Resistance acceptance testing

Resistance from work surface to ground must be below 1×10⁹ Ω; when purchasing, choose a 10⁶–10⁹ Ω surface. Measure with a high-range resistance meter at 10/100 V with a 5 lb electrode. The procedure is in the article 5-step acceptance testing of ESD workbenches.

If your workshop already has stainless benches and you are not sure the ground wires are still good, PRIMEAG can come and measure free of charge together with mats and chairs, with no obligation to buy.

Completed projects

  • Singapore-invested e-commerce warehouse, Ho Chi Minh City, 09/2026: 50 benches 1200×750, 30 benches 1500×750 and 4 304-stainless benches 1200×2400; 10 days production, 2 days installation.
  • Chinese-invested logistics warehouse, Phu Tho, 07/2026: 30 trolleys, 32 benches 1200×750, 6 benches 1500×1000, 5 stainless benches 1200×2400.
  • Taiwanese-invested electronic components factory, Da Nang, 2024–2025: about 500 ESD benches with lamps, sockets and ground wires, delivered in 4 batches.

The stainless benches in the two warehouse projects are ordinary warehouse benches, not ESD benches.

Where to start

  1. Define the work done on the bench.
  2. Choose the stainless grade and work surface from the table above.
  3. Send dimensions and quantities.
  4. Measure resistance to ground at handover and record it in a report.

If the area does not require a stainless top, see PRIMEAG’s ESD workbenches with steel pipe or aluminium profile frames; for factories in Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Long An, see ESD workbenches delivered to Binh Duong – Dong Nai.

Factories that are export processing enterprises receive invoices at 0% VAT; for orders from VND 20 million, PRIMEAG handles the on-the-spot import/export customs procedures free of charge.

Frequently asked questions

Stainless steel conducts, so does an ESD stainless bench still need a ground wire? Yes. Metal can only discharge when there is a path to ground, so a ground wire from the frame to the common ground point is required.

Can we lay an ESD mat on our existing stainless steel benches? Yes. The 2-layer mat is pre-cut to the bench, fitted with a 10 mm snap at the corner, connected with a 1 MΩ cord to the ground socket, then re-measured.

What is the lead time for custom stainless benches made to drawing? Standard designs 5–7 working days, new designs 10–15 working days; orders over 20 benches about 2–3 weeks. The frame has a 3-year warranty.
