When to choose 2308 instead of 244
- 2308: about 30 % cheaper than 244, sharp paint lines, higher heat resistance (121 °C / 30 minutes). The stretchy crepe backing follows curves.
- 3M 244: thinner Washi backing (0.09 mm), acrylic adhesive, cleaner removal on fine paint finishes; rated 100 °C / 30 minutes.
- Through reflow or 260 °C wave soldering: do not use paper tape — choose Kapton tape.
- Edge masking when dispensing silicone: apply 2308 on both sides of the joint for a straight bead, and peel the tape off while the sealant is still wet.
Note: 3M warns that 2308 may become very hard to remove after long outdoor exposure — do not use it for outdoor masking over several days. Issue stock first-in, first-out because shelf life is 1 year.
